Holidays

Christmas has passed like a gentle wave of happiness and relaxation, filled with new memories of good times with my husband’s family. Due to the lockdown restrictions caused by the new strains of Covid-19 and the increased cases of infection in England, we were only able to visit my husband’s family for Christmas day. It was a wonderful celebration nonetheless. I feel so grateful for the thoughtful gifts we received and thankful for the delicious feast prepared by my husband’s brother and his wife. We truly have so much to be thankful for in our lives.

We used the final two postcards to write to our new neighbours and wish them a Merry Christmas. We have met one of our neighbours already and they seem very nice with children and two dogs. It is important to have good relations with neighbours, especially as we share one of our walls with them.

Moving into the house on the 18th went very smoothly thanks to a professional moving company that also cleaned the old house in Cambridge and new house in Ely. It is nice to move into a clean home. We have spent time unpacking boxes and selecting places for items. It has been fun deciding where to place everything in the house. The new house has much better heating than the old house, so we are warm even at 18C on the thermostat. We will not have internet in the new house until the 5th of January so we have formed a bubble with my husband’s mother who has kindly allowed us to come to her house to use the internet as my husband has to work for the next five days.

We started building the sleep beside cot for Aurora. It has proved a simple task, with a sturdy wooden frame and strong screws and a logical construction. It rocks slightly and has a detachable basinet that we can place in the living room if needed.

Though there is still so much to do in the new house and before Aurora’s arrival, I feel happy and relaxed as if everything will work out. It is an amazing feeling to be so content as I am usually worrying about everything. I have even started sleeping for more than 6 hours in the night. It is wonderful. I am looking forward to the new year.
